Worcestershire Apprenticeships Awards

We are thrilled to announce that for the second year running Payara is a finalist in the Worcestershire Apprenticeship Awards in the SME Apprentice Employer of the Year category.

The finalist ‘Black tie’ event will be held at the Tree Tops Pavilion, West Midlands Safari Park on November 14th. This year, Marc Woods, British Paralympic Swimmer and Gold Medallist will be the host.

How Have We Been Finalists Two Years in a Row?

Well that’s easy…. we have some of the best Degree Apprentices around who bring a whole new level of professionalism and enthusiasm to the team! Our Degree Apprenticeship program has been carefully tailored to be part of a blended learning approach in partnership with Aston University, the training provider. Our apprentices benefit from a university education at a much sought-after and respected UK university while getting hands on in a very practical way as part of the Payara Engineering team. Our ethos is to ensure that our apprentices are thoroughly integrated with the team and benefit from the expertise and immense knowledge that the more senior Engineers bring to the company. We manage this by ensuring not only that the apprentices follow the tailored training program, but also take part in training through task-based research, colleague knowledge share, and professional development to prepare them for their careers in technology.

What Can a Payara Degree Apprentice Look Forward to?

Julia Millidge, HR Manager at Payara, says “Our apprentices are given a huge challenge when they become part of the team – they need to juggle working full time with undertaking a university undergraduate degree… but with the challenge comes opportunities. We offer them the experience of working in a cutting-edge tech company with access to some of the brightest stars in the industry to work alongside. Aside from the Engineering opportunities, they can get involved in a range of companywide initiatives; for example, supporting our ‘Grow our Own’ (GYO) program where we actively reach out to local students to promote STEM and Tech as a career choice. They also get to be part of other PR, CSR and company wide activities which broadens and strengthens their employability skills and helps give them pride in the company and the responsibilities we give them.”

This year we hope to become the winners of this category – it’s tough as the competition is strong; there were many entries from some outstanding businesses… but regardless of who wins, we know that our apprentices are the best they can be, and we applaud them for that.
